Verbal Roots Apothecary is a family owned herbal apothecary based out of Pickerington, Ohio. Their focus is on the use of plants to connect you deeply to your roots and to expand your vision towards what wholeness can mean for you. Their goal to create sacred space, promote natural healing, and do all that they can to help people discover their inner wisdom and innate healing power of their extraordinary body.
Verbal Roots takes pleasure in crafting handmade health products of the highest quality using the best of what nature has to offer. They believe that herbalism is most powerful when grown through relationship to the local grounds on which we live on. For that reason, all of their products are formulated with materials they’ve grown themselves (without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic chemical fertilizers), responsibly harvested in the wild, or purchased from local, organically certified retailers who share their vision for sustainability.
As they ethically harvest their plant allies in the wild, they give the utmost respect to the land. They take extreme care to only harvest what is necessary while leaving enough to ensure the plant's ability to continue to thrive. They garner joy from the land and give thanks for its bounty, proudly playing their part in supporting the movement of eco-responsible harvesting, farming, and manufacturing.
About the Herbalist
Simone Nguyen
“All we have to do is learn how to listen”.
Simone is a vitalist practitioner and master herbalist with an extreme passion for bringing ancestral practices, the plant magic, and deep connection to the earth to life. Though she has many tools to facilitate wellness and vitality in herself and others, she believes that true healing comes from deep within. Our bodies are intelligent and resilient beings that are capable of revealing to us ALL that we need to know to achieve greater health.
All we have to do is learn how to listen.
With a strong connection to ancestral practices, Simone embarked on her plant journey 12 years ago while living in New York City. Formerly a fashion and textile designer, under immense stress, she experienced declining health and developed alopecia, an autoimmune disease causing hair loss. The only option she was given was to inject steroids directly into her scalp. She knew that this was NOT the answer. Simone's determination to live holistically led her to discover the healing power of plants. After successfully healing, she founded Verbal Roots, an herbal apothecary to educate and share her deep love of plants as medicine.
Simone’s primary focus is Vitalism and Western Folk Herbalism but she enjoys blending a variety of other holistic systems like Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Alchemy into her practice. Her philosophy to wellness is self-understanding on the physical and spiritual level, rather than focusing on the illness or specific parts of the body. Holistic medicine consist in the treatment of the spirit, soul, and body - not just the disease. This ancient approach to health considers the whole person and how he or she interacts with his or her environment. It emphasizes the connection of mind, body and spirit. Herbalism, in order to be holistic, must support the possibility that there is a spiritual side to the plant as well as a material side. This approach to wellness gives us a greater appreciation and understanding that Nature as a whole is a living, spiritual being.
She believes that conventional medicine has a valid place ; however, she also believes that traditional folk medicine, ancestral plant wisdom, and natural healing remedies play an utmost important role that are often missing in our healthcare. She respects the traditions and experience of our ancestors, the subtle energetic of healing, and the discoveries of modern science. Her goal is to help others transition from a culture of expensive healthcare to a culture that seeks optimal health through natural mind-body medicine for a more self-sufficient approach, rather than dependent on a medical system and/or pharmaceutical drugs.
Simone Nguyen will be offering 1:1 Herbal Consultations & Small Group Events focused on Herbal Education & Care at AIRE Studios. In addition to these services Verbal Roots Apothecary will be available for sale at AIRE Studios as well. We support Verbal Roots Apothecary in their journey to providing care and education to people looking for alternative holistic healing modalities.
